Open to Voice and Choice grantees who participated in communications training in April

Synopsis

As part of the #Voice and Choice Southern Africa Fund which GL manages for Amplify Change (AC) GL will be convening a #Voice and Choice Learning and Sharing Summit from 1-2 November 2023 to share good practices on Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR). The summit, which will bring together grantees and civil society partners working to advance SRHR, will be held in Johannesburg, South Africa. Dowload the briefing powerpoint.

Who can attend?

The summit is open to:

  • All grantees of the Amplify Change supported Voice and Choice Southern Africa Fund;
  • Media trained by GL on SRHR as part of its partnership with UNESCO;
  • Other Amplify Change grantees in Southern Africa;
  • Water Aid and its affiliates;
  • Any other civil society organisations promoting SRHR in SADC

Please note however that GL will only sponsor participation by VCSAF grantees. Others will need to cover their own costs, or participate virtually.

Requirements

  1. Administrative information (information about yourself; some from drop down menus)
  2. Category (drop down menu of the ten categories).
  3. Description of the good practise (one page narrative)
  4. Presentation (power point presentation)
  5. Evidence (photos, videos, pamphlets, reference letters)
  • You can view the full application in English or French under each category to help you prepare your submission, however the submission must be done online.
  • You will find on the application form instructions on how to save and come back into the application in case you are not able to submit it in one sitting.

Process

  • A panel of judges will be assessing your application during the presentation.
  • They will use the session in which you present to clarify any questions or queries they might have.
  • The judges’ will score each entry through an online system.
  • The judges score will be final
  • Winners will be announced at a gala dinner on Thursday 2 November.

Background

Since 2004, GL has hosted 20 summits to show case good practise on advancing the SADC Protocol on Gender and Development. Since 2019, in line with GL’s work on SRHR, the Summits have been held under the banner of the #VoiceandChoice Campaign.  

The 2023 #Voice and Choice Summit will deepen the focus on women’s power to use their voice to influence programmes, policies and processes that have an impact on their lives, in particular their sexual and reproductive health and rights. The Summit will move the conversation beyond just women’s rights to mainstream organisations working to better integrate gender in their programmes and organisations.

Objectives

The summit aims to:

  • Promote practical knowledge sharing amongst practitioners on SRHR
  • Gather case studies on action, leadership and institutional practice and capacity building;
  • Acknowledge and affirm the work done by civil society organizations;
  • Promote discussion and reflection on what works to achieve gender equality and justice;
  • Strengthen partnerships between women’s rights and mainstream organisations working in the SADC region.
  • Create cross sectoral partnerships

Outputs

  • At least 50 best practices submitted in six categories.
  • Summit report
  • Best practices curated and shared online.

Outcomes

  • Cross-region, multisector sharing and learning on SRHR.
  • Partnerships between women’s rights and mainstream organisations working in the SADC region are established or strengthened.
  • Improved knowledge about what works for women’s rights and mainstreaming organisation who are implementing SRHR programmes, campaigns and advocacy.
  • Validation, affirmation, encouragement and celebration of organisations and people doing exemplary work in communities to advance SRHR.
