EOI Grants Selection Committee 18 Sept

Gender Links seeks the services of independent gender experts to serve on the Grants Selection Committee of the Renewed Women’s Voice and Leadership South Africa Fund supported by Global Affairs Canada and managed by Gender Links. Applications must be submitted by 17.00 on Wednesday 18 September 2024 to grants1@genderlinks.org.za.

About the fund

WVL-SA is a fund to ensure the increased enjoyment of human rights by women and girls, and the advancement of gender equality in South Africa. WVL supports women’s organisations and movements that seek to empower women and girls and advance the protection of women’s and girls’ rights.

About the Grants Calls

The Women’s Voice and Leadership South Africa WVL-SA) Fund offers two types of Grants.

Multi-year core grants of up to R1.3 million for organisations with an annual income exceeding R1.5 million. These grants include a movement-building component.
Fast Responsive/Opportunity grants  of up to R300,000 per annum each, including innovation funding and incubation grants. These grants target organisations with an annual income below R1.5 million and may be renewed annually based on satisfactory implementation.

Criteria for Serving on the Grants Selection Committee

Interested candidates must

  • Be based in South Africa and preferably be a South African national
  • Be able to work virtually, as all assessments will be conducted online.
  • Have a proven track record in gender issues, including research, policy, and advocacy.
  • Be individuals of integrityprinciple, and good standing, widely respected in their field and communities.
  • Have previous experience in grants selection or management.
  • Come from diverse backgrounds. WVL particularly encourages suitable candidates from disability, LGBTIQ and all diverse backgrounds to apply.
  • Have no conflict of interest with potential applicants. If such conflict should arise, must immediately declare this using GL’s Conflict of Interest Form

Selection Process

  • Decisions on selection will be communicated by Wednesday 25 September 2024.
  • A briefing for the selected committee members will follow shortly after the decision.

Terms and conditions

  • Gender Links cannot determine the exact time commitment required from each committee member, as this will depend on the number of shortlisted applications. However, this information will be communicated as soon as possible.
  • Members of the GSC will work intensively during the periods indicated in the table below and must be available during those periods. They will however work virtually and at their own time and pace.

  • An honorarium will be offered to all committee members in recognition of their time and effort. This will be paid per application reviewed.
  • Comments made during review will be shared with applicants.
  • Finalists may be asked to make presentations.
  • Recommendations for awards by the Grants Selection Committee will be put to the Project Steering Committee. The decisions of the PSC will be final.
  • You may be invited to the on-boarding of grantees on 21-22 November to share general comments and suggestions based on the applications reviewed.
  • WVL will keep your details on the online data base for other possible assignments, including serving as a judge at learning and sharing summits.

  • Your CV, including at least two referees.
  • cover letter indicating your interest and availability to serve on the Grants Selection Committee; highlighting why you consider yourself an ideal candidate for this role. Please mention any prior experience.
